Lydia's mother had a gift. She knew things before they happened, and what she saw always happened. She saw it less as a gift, and more as a reason to drink herself into oblivion. She did everthing she could not to think about the visions, finding comfort in anyones arms she could find. She was never sure who's Lydia's father was, but from the day she found out it was going to be a girl she cried. All the girls in their family had this 'gift.'

Despite her mom's views, Lydia saw her gift as just that, a gift. She found she could hear things, things other people couldn't hear. She also learned knowledge was power. When her friends or her got in trouble in school, all it took was a few minutes alone with the principal to ensure it all went away. Not that she could control her mind, but she could tell the Librarian that her husbands made lover to her in her office. And so it was, adults hated her, her friends flocked to her. She grew protective of her sarrogate family, but most of all Kathy. Her homelife was about as messed up as hers, but she wasn't as strong as Lydia. So Lydia protected her. Over the next few years of elementery, Lydia's gifts began to grow, and she studied witchcraft, Kathy always by her side practicing with her. They were insepperable. By fifth grade they found their way to the local occult book store, and thats where things really started.

It wasn't uncommon for Lydia to tell Kathy what people were thinking, it was something they always laughed about. Normally they spoke quietly, but she had been getting comfortable. After all, if someone like her couldn't be comfortable in an occult store, then where then?

His name was Arnold, and he was a snake of a man. A showman more then anything, he had managed to collect a group of followers together to form a chantry, with him as the 'divine head. While lacking in most gifts, his one strength lied in his ability to block his thoughts by forming a mental wall. It was this gift that allowed him to impress those with power into joining him, that and liberal use of the Forer effect. Within minutes, he had the girls convinced this was where they belonged. He quickly tricked the mom in a drunken stupor to sighn away rights to her daughter, then afterwards drowned her in her own tub. Kathy's mother suffered a smiliar fate.

Not that he didn't treat them well, he made the two girls the focal point of the chantry, and using them his chantries prestige grew. While they were given the best rooms in the chantry, the other members resented them for being so powerful so young, Arnold to, while he depended on them, while he showered them with praise, resented them to his core, and he constantly sought a source of power that would answer to him, without the pretense of trickery. He waited, and his chance came. Chantries everywhere began whispering of an "Eye of the Sea Serpent," a sphere seemingly made out of crystal that could show the user the inner thoughts of anyone. He had Lydia, but always had to come up with honorable pretenses to his intentions, with this gift he would need her no more.

He had to lie to Lydia regurlarly to get leads to who had the map and key, but with enough acting, and lots of literal throat cutting, he had everything he needed.

"Tonight is the night," He said proudly to them. "Tonight you fulfill your destiny, tonight we usher this chantry into a new golden age!" Lydia loved seeing him so proud. "I want to make you proud, father." "And you have, you have. Where's Kathy?" "Getting ready," "Good, now the temple is ancient, and will be quite dangerous. Stay close, I can't let anything happen to either of you..."
Petroglyph Provincial Park, Nanaimo, Vancouver Island BC -

Through the map they learned that the petroglyph's carved were a code, one guiding them to a place of great power. It led the three of them deep inside a cave.

Something wasn't right. Lydia knew it, but she couldn't place it. Father was acting weird. Like he was hiding something? Maybe he was trying to protect her...

They came to a stone structure with pins and blocks. The wrong sequence set off traps, which from what they could translate, would destroy the cave forever, to protect the treasure inside. The map gave the key, and by placing the blocks in the right place, they heards something big move, and catch, and a wall slid 3 feet to the left.

Arnold collapsed, hyperventillating, "FATHER!" Both girls ran to Arnold, "its okay girls, I'll be okay, get the eye! that is all that matters, I'll be okay, go, now, get it!" He never told him that picking up the eye also triggered the trap. That wasn't an accident.

The two girls ran in fearlessly, Kathy grabbed the egg, "I GOT IT!," She said excitedly, before a rock crushed her. "KATHY!!!" "GRAB THE EYE!!! LYDIA, YOU MUST GRAB THE EYE!!!" Arnold yelled, She grabbed it, confused, running towards the entrance. She felt her legged crushed underneath a rock, "Father! HELP ME!" He snatched the eye from her hand and started to run, "FATHER!!!" "You've done the chantry well, now do even better and die!" He said as he ran.

After the avalanche, she managed to crawl out into the mouth of the cave. She was trembling, she had lost much blood, her bones in her leg were broken in several places.

"Aedan! over here! She's hurt!" Aedan followed Stephanie's voice until he came upon a dying Lydia, "Hurt...she's dying," They were looking for an ancient rumored to be sleeping in the area, but this would come first. "Kathy...Kathy..." she said crying, "He betrayed us, father betrayed us..." she said faintly, barely keeping concious. Stephanie looked at Aedan, a tear of blood dropping, he just nodded. He knew what she was asking, "Whoever did this thinks she's dead. Whoever did this deserves an unpleasant surprise." "Honey, I...shit, I don't want to scare you, but you dont have alot of time. We're Vampires. I can make you like me, but its permanent, theirs no going back, but you will live, and you will be given power to make this right, so, embrace or die?" "Em...brace..." She said as she was passing out.

Humans betray me. Monsters save me. The darkness really is kinder then the light. She woke up from her embrace crying. Not because of the pain of her body dying, but from watching Kathy dye, by watching her father betray them both. Stephanie held her, "We'll help you make this right, I promise you that." she said, kissing her forehead.
Aedans nails dug into his palms. He wanted to find the responsible party and burn them to ash, but now that would be her choice. He couldn't take that away fom her.
