Werewolf Part 2 : Bane of the Wyrm Pack

Kate took a deep breath, trying to get a firm grip on her own emotions. She was still trying to deal with the loss they'd suffered and Akane had managed to get under her skin again. They had lost what amounted to four of their pack and the Glass Walker, instead of being with them for support, had run off somewhere. It was apparently now that Akane had no clue what it meant to be part of a pack, of a family. A pack had to be there for each other, had to be able to support each other and to compliment each others strength and weaknesses. Akane didn't even try. And that angered Kate, anger directed at Akane when she should be only need to be angry at whatever had decimated their pack.

The talk of Mist brought her down from that rage for the moment though. It was something else to direct her focus towards. As they began to walk towards where they'd left Mist, Kate lightly touched a hand to Veli's shoulder, letting him know that she had his back. She glanced to Medivh, wondering if he would choose to accompany them or not. She made a gesture to him that he was welcome to come if he so chose to.

When they reached the stone room where Mist rested, Kate slowed, seeing their packmate from a distance. The white bandages wrapped around the lupus were in stark contrast to her darker fur and they covered a lot of her, it seemed. Mist's head came up a bit, looking over at them and she whined quietly. At that, Kate picked up her pace again, going over to her stricken friend. She tried to ignore the way Mist didn't even try to move her rear legs at all. It probably just hurt her, she thought.

Mist nodded her head at Veli as much as she could. She licked at her lips. She scrubbed at her face with a front paw for a moment before she started. "I go look for prey.. for one sent to see." she said, her lupus origin limiting her speech even in High Garou. "Search edges of Weaver lair, find nothing in time. Decide to head back to cairn as you order, to meet with pack. I return same time as twins. They find nothing. Mule comes and talks. Says that pack others come and go, chasing trail. He tells where to meet you, out in woods." she explained but had to stop, taking some deep breaths as she tired. She winced suddenly, a whimper escaping her muzzle as pain shot through her. After a moment she calmed and continued. "We do not question Mule. He is of Sept. We go, find spot but then tainted beast is waiting. Tainted beast and others. Not enough time to act, nowhere to run..." she said with desperation in her tone. She whimpered again, looking sad. "I hit.. hit tree. Do not know what happen. Twins?" she asked, in a desperate, hoping voice.

Kate closed her eyes, averting her head slightly, not wanting to have to answer Mist, to upset the lupus. They couldn't lie to her but.. it would hurt her more than she already was.

Veli nodded as Mist tried her best to speak. He was able to understand, possibly clearer than the others could. He turned around as she was catching her breath; he had forgotten already that Akane had stormed out earlier. He was disappointed to see that not all of his pack, small as they were already, were not here to check on Mist. Then she mentions the Mule.. and a tainted creature. It sparked an even bigger question... where was the Mule on a night like this? Velis blood ran hot as he tried hard to contain his anger.

Sadly he shook his head at Mists question about the twins... he thought she knew already. "Mist... only you survived." he told her. Veli did not want to lie to Mist and have her find out about it anyway so he told her as well as he could. He hoped it would not cause her to blame herself. There was somebody else to blame here.... but before they can conclude that Veli had to find and question the Mule. How dare he lead members of his own sept to a tainted creature? He was quick to jump to conclusions but still he needed confirmation before doing anything rash. "This was not your fault Mist. Sometimes the Wyrm break through Gaias defenses; she is hurt as well. You rest up, it is late and you are recovering." he finally said, rubbing her around the neck and ears.

He stood up and moved towards the wall, making space for the others. There he waited for the others to talk/comfort Mist.

Well it was one hell of a storm, Akane tought as she made her way to one of the traps she set sometime before the storm. It was quite hard to even see what the GPS was showing, but slowly she made her way, eventually reaching the spot with the trap, which was burried under quite a lot of snow! She started to dig as fast as possible and eventually reach the trap. For her good surprise there was a rabbit caught it! Well this was going to made a good snack for Mist! The albino quickly took the rabbit with one hand and slowly headed towards the sept‘s home. It took a while, but she eventually returned. Good thing she didn‘t plan those traps too far from the entrance.
„Seems like I was in luck today, a rabbit was caught in one of my traps.“ She said when she returned to the others.“ When the meat unfreazes, we could make something good for Mist with fresh rabbit meat!“ She said and smiled."Ahh is she awake!? Is she well?"

Kate began to bristle at the mention of the Metis of the Sept. She'd never exactly trusted Thanos; partially because there just seemed to be something about him but, she admitted to herself, in large part due to the fact that her own tribe had taught that twisted in body often mirrored twisted in soul, a stereotype she knew she had trouble seeing past. He had told them the rest of them were out there? It was sounding like he purposefully led them into a trap.. Could there be any other explanation, she asked herself. It could have been coincidence but then why had Thanos lied about seeing the rest of the pack in the first place? Kate began to believe all the more in the Fianna adage with regards to Metis.

When Veli relayed the fate of the twins, Mist let out a small whimper, closing her eyes and laying her head down on her forelegs. It hurt Kate to see her packmate in such distress. She opened her eyes again as Veli told her it wasn't her fault. She nodded, accepting his words but the pain of it all was clear in her amber eyes. It was the same pain that was echoed in each of them as well. When Veli moved back, Kate moved up closer, giving Mist a careful hug, paying mind not to hurt or jolt the lupus. She put her forehead to Mist's. "We're going to find out what did this and make them pay." she said with anger in her voice. "For you and for the twins, we will take vengeance." she promised.

As Kate moved back, Mist looked between her two present packmates with appreciation. "Bring death to tainted." she said to them. "For twins." With that she lay her head back down. It was obvious this meeting had taken a lot of energy for her, energy which would be best spent healing now.

Kate moved out of the room to let Mist get some well-needed sleep. It made her happy to see the lupus in much of a better state than the night before, and now they had a lead to go on as well. The anger inside her boiled, aching for a target to be unleashed upon. It would have to wait though. As she headed back towards the fire pit they had more or less claimed as their own, Akane came back into the cave, covered with snow and bringing in the cold air. Kate shivered as the cold air touched her skin through her somewhat light clothes. She really wasn't dressed for what the weather had turned out to be. Her coat was in the room with Mist, relegated to the floor but it was covered with Mist's blood from the night before; she'd have to get a new coat.

She looked at the rabbit in Akane's hand with some surprise. It must have been pretty lucky to have caught anything in this weather. She guessed maybe the trap had caught it before the blizzard had started. At least the cold would have kept it well. Kate's anger calmed just a bit; at least Akane was thinking of their packmate. "Why not some rabbit stew? It might be easier for her to eat." she suggested. She glanced back to where they had come from. "Yes, she's awake and she talked to us. As well as can be expected." she answered. "We've left her to get some rest now but it seems like the Metis may have set her and the twins up..." She left that hanging.

"Yeah! That would be the best choice!" Akane said with a smile." Though my cooking skills are almost nonexistant..."
"Is that so..." She said when she heard what may have happened." Something doesn't sound exactly quite right here... What did those acts was a tainted beast most likely, I suppose that's what she will say or said already, but why did he lead them to the ambush and how and when he kept contact with those bastards in order to organise this?" She asked." One doesn't simple makes ambushes without prior coordination. They must have kept contact somehow, if we discover how... we may get direct leads to them."

Medivh Stood behind them all in the shadow, not wanting to interrupt their morning.

Kate shrugged, shaking her head. "Thanos is a mule; what other reason does he need." she answered in frustration. "His twisted form mirrors his twisted nature. What else can we expect from one like him? It's obvious that he knew where he was sending them so yes, that means that it's likely he knew whatever beast this was and was in league with it. At least, that's my thought on the matter." she said, looking to Veli. "I say we track the mule down and make sure he talks! Give him what he deserves!" she added angrily, showing her barred teeth. She now had a target for her rage about what had been done to her packmates. She looking at the others. "Has anyone seen Thanos around here today?" she asked, sure that she hadn't. In fact, the corner that the mule usually occupied, near everyone in the Sept but not quite a part of them, was empty.. looking as if it had been cleaned out. She glanced towards the cave exit but resignation got the better of her. There was virtually no way to track anything through the storm outside.

She turned to Medivh, her angry energy throwing a million trains of thought through her mind at once. "You, Medivh." she said. "What do you think of mules?" she asked. "Of Metis." She knew her Alpha thought them weak and were to be disdained for that. Her own tribe, of course, viewed them as both outwardly and inwardly deformed. As far as Kate could tell, Akane seemed to just have ignored Thanos. She wanted to know now what the newcomer thought.

Medivh was shocked to hear their words, he knew Metis were often ostracized but to be hated this much? Although... this one had seem to defected to the Wyrm, where no doubt he was promised a true home one he more than likely never received here. That however did not forgive treason, especially to Gaia. "The Metis themselves should not be condemned for a crime they did not commit. To them the only crime they ever committed was being born, this... Thanos however, is not guilt of just that. He himself has broken his sacred pact with Gaia and must meet his death, it is the only option he has left. The spirits, especially that of our Totem, will not stand for this injustice."

Kate gave an odd look at Medivh. The Uktena was defending a Metis? She wasn't angry for him to do so, nor was she adamant on her own point really; it was just what she had learned from the other Fianna back home. She welcomed a debate as it could maybe teach her something new about the notions that had been fed to her thus far. As of yet though, she had no reason not to believe that Metis were the same inside as out. "How many Metis have you met, friend? I have to say Thanos was my first and he lived up to what my Tribe thinks of the mules." she said. "I do agree that no matter what, he will have to pay for his betrayal in the harshest way possible. All mules.. all Garou must know the cost of turning their backs on Gaia. We will be the hand of retribution in this instance. We will have vengeance for all our fallen and we will wipe clean whatever threat that bastard Mule seeks to rain down upon us!" she spoke loudly and passionately. Her Fianna Galliard blood was running hot at the anger directed at the absent coward. "Does anyone know of any way we could potentially try to track the Mule down? I suspect that we shouldn't let him get too much of a head start..."

"I have met few in my travels, as they are indeed rare, but many are noble creatures who wish to shed the dishonorable coat their parents gave them. But I say the spirits do frown on those who turn their back on Gaia, maybe they can help us in this endeavor."
