The fact that Vanessa labelled Marni as a wanted person only served to increase her reticence. One thing the other women said though gave Marni a thread of hope. "You can get me cleared?" she asked. "Will this Baron guy listen? Is he reasonable?" She was still worried that he might decide to do something harsh to her in response to how she had been surviving, despite the fact that she had been ignorant about everything but Vanessa seemed to be confident that they'd get Marni 'admitted into the group', so.. she had to be alive to be admitted... hopefully. When beckoned, she followed the Brujah, listening as Vanessa continued. At least she would have to be alive to report on the tidbits she knew about Tobias and that damned cult.
Anarchs? Odd name, she thought to herself. Obviously short for anarchists but.. ironically, they seemed to have a power structure. She didn't want to interrupt the other woman's explanation about the rest of it for something trivial at the moment though. Many different unseen forces in the world.. The thought left her reeling. Half a year ago, as she had gone on in her daily life, she and everyone else in the world, was totally oblivious to this... race of monster hiding in plain sight. God.... Hearing about the factions that made up the Kindred race didn't make her feel any better. Vampires of untold power and age.. and here she was, as helpless and naive about it all as an infant. She winced at the description of the Sabbat but.. there were always people.. humans who had no morals so she supposed it wasn't too far fetched that they stayed free of them after being turned. She supposed, being immortal, like attracted like over time.
Marni let out a humourless laugh, almost more out of relief, at hearing the description now of the Anarchs. "I guess I should be glad it was you, your faction that I stumbled on then.. " she answered. "God, how is any of this real.." she added, more quietly to herself as she rushed to join Vanessa under the umbrella. She was only starting to dry out from being outside earlier and she didn't really want to walk in on this Baron looking like a drowned rat. She was surprised.. no, amazed, to see cab pull up in front of them within less than two minutes, and they loaded themselves inside.
----------------------------------
The cab stopped outside of what looked to be a small newspaper office. Marni glanced out at it, noting that many of the lights were still on despite the late hour. She supposed that newspaper offices probably weren't strictly nine to five hours, as breaking news could crop up at any time and there might be a rush to print it. Following Vanessa, she got out of the cab, trying to keep under the other woman's umbrella as best she could. Someone stood just inside the front double doors, but with the light coming from behind, all she could see was a silhouette. It was a pretty beefing looking silhouette though.. She had to trust that Vanessa knew what she was doing, taking them both there. It would make sense, though, for someone like a Baron to have some security, right?
As they approached the front doors, the man inside pushed one open, admitting them into the building. He nodded to the Brujah woman. "Vanessa." he greeted in a deep but pleasant voice, thickly accented. After a brief study of Marni, he gestured deeper into the building, speaking to Vanessa. "You know the way to Hans' office. He's waiting for you." (bodyguard named Bogdan, russian accent)
That gave Marni pause for a second. She hadn't seen Vanessa call ahead.. and she had been with the Brujah woman since they had met. How did this guy know they were coming? Maybe the cab driver? Maybe someone here had some other kind of super power... She didn't even know a fraction of what Kindred seemed capable of... Still, she continued to follow Vanessa, the other woman seeming to know this place fairly well. They passed a few people, working here and there, as they made their way to whatever the destination was.
Finally they came to exactly what had been said, an office. It looked like a working office of am actual newspaper, containing a desk piled high with papers, manila folders, and a half-buried computer. Standing up from a chair that had been half hidden behind the piles was a very young looking man, attractive with sandy blond hair and striking blue eyes... blue eyes that carried a weight, that looked like they had seen too much in this world. The fleeting smile seemed perfunctory though not sarcastic. His sharp nod towards Marni's companion was.. a bit out of place with local custom. The heavy German accent when he finally spoke in a soft voice probably explained it though.
"Fräulein Vanessa, how good of you to come." he said. He sighed tiredly. "It has been a long night, despite being only hours old, so forgive the lack of formality in this meeting but.. why is it that you have come?" Though this question was directed at Vanessa, his azure blue eyes studied Marni, obviously Kindred but one he had never seen before. He was fairly sure that whatever the reason for Vanessa's visit, it had to do with the eccentric looking woman in her company. It was clear though that he expected introductions from Vanessa.
