Post Re: SC - Fugitives
Ava stood there, listening to Miranda explain about Earth while half of her mind scanned as far as she could psionically, just keeping an eye out for any warnings. Thus far, all minds she could feel were in the humdrum of the status quo. Going on duty, eating, or just coming off duty and quieting down for the base's night time. The only thing that spoiled the pleasantness of it was the undercurrent of resentment from many of the men stationed here against these UED people. Ava's full attention suddenly turned to Miranda as the doctor began to explain about Earth's former ideology. The ghost frowned. The part about those not considered pure being eliminated was.. abhorrent but... the rest of it... The killing off of those not convenient for the regime, no matter the numbers.. even if it was millions smacked too much of Mengsk for Ava's taste. That was right up that bastard's alley. Tarsonis were prime example of this, even if it hadn't been HIS regime yet.

Her head jerked just a little as Miranda continued. The Koprulu sector was settled by prisoners? If Earth was like what Miranda was saying though, Ava wondered if many prisoners may have simply been political prisoners rather than actual criminals. She was going to ask about the experiments but stopped at hearing that the only reason the UED would be here was because they wanted something, perhaps even the whole sector. She shook her head slowly, in disbelief. "This sector isn't small though... do you think this UED could be big enough, strong enough to try to take the Koprulu sector over?" she asked doubtfully. "I highly doubt Mengsk would give over his power that he killed millions for so easily... and I don't see Umoja relinquishing its sovereignty either...." She frowned more. "If they want our resources, I don't really see the people here being okay with becoming slaves to ship resources back to some half-forgotten world that we don't even have ties to anymore."

Ava tilted her masked head, the only sign in her body language that she was now pleased that they were going to be stepping up the game to get some intel. Suddenly though, sirens started blaring. Ava's gun had turned to face the one door to the room defensively just in case even though she had sensed no one there. Weird, she hadn't even felt any warnings from minds around that anything was amiss either. And then the intercom sprang to life. The warning klaxon and intercom were so loud that Ava switched to psionics. 'Emergency Capital Ship?' she sent questioningly to Miranda. Ava had never really seen or heard of anything other than normal fighter craft like wraiths, dropships and typical battlecruisers. Whatever it was though.. it needed repairs.. Which meant that something had damaged it... What that was, who knew?

The ghost was about to object to resting, but thought better of it. Yes, the work of maintaining the cloak was straining, but she wasn't at the point of falling down exhausted or anything and even if she had been, she would have just push through it. As it was though, Ava realized that Miranda would be able to more easily pass through the halls right now, especially if there was a lot of traffic, without an anomaly being noticed. The ghost's cloaking was very good.. but it wasn't infallible, especially at close range. All it would take is someone with experience noticing the shimmer of the air to notice her. So Ava nodded to her friend. "If you find one, send to me.. if you are close enough, I might be able to influence their mind and get them to follow you somewhere more isolated." she said.

Post Re: SC - Fugitives
"There in lies the problem... it took us dozens of years to arrive here, exact date and time span is hard to place, but it's commonly believed the original people on board the ships that arrived in the sector traveled for roughly 28 years... Do these people appear to you like people who had spent 3 decades traveling to get here?" She asked Ava with a raised eyebrow and looked at the door of the room." 3 decades while the original colonists were traveling, then the rest of the time since then..., what's more here we suffered a brief dark age where technology regressed and we had to rediscover a lot of it. It took us decades to rediscover warp travel for example. Who knows while we were creating our own civilization here and rediscovering lost tech, how much further advanced Earth had gotten." Miranda had a very bad feeling about it." They might be able to just out firepower anythiung Mengsk can throw at them, we will see. However there is another danger. Many people here would easily join them with a promise for better life because of the things they can bring forth."

'I think they mean that a ship is arriving in emergency condition. It raising the base to alert means that it must have seen combat, given the fact that the base's engineer corps were being assembled.' Miranda sent to Ava with a shrug. If that was the case indeed, the cause for the damages sustained were anybody's guess until they could see the ship's condition. In this sector it could be anything really. There were so many dangers out here that it wasn't even funny. They could have met protoss, zerg, pirates and who knows what else.' This is actually good for us. It will divert their attention towards the situation at hand so we should be able to move more freely for a bit at least.'

Miranda grinned at the ghost as she suggested a course of action. She nodded.' That's a good plan.' She approved, time in freedom of mind was bringing only good things to Ava. She was getting better at everything by the day. Miranda was happy! THough she also found the idea both amusing and interesting. There were similar experiments back in the academy, but Ava had no way of knowing it. Attempting to create transmitters for psionic powers. They hadn't quite managed to do it, but a few dampeners were produced that could block psionic links in an area. Seems that all her 'colleauges' were just following the wrong idea back then. All they really needed to do was couple a ghost with a lower tiered psionic for long enough to allow them to cooperate at will. Because this was pratically what their current situation was. Miranda could very well serve as the ghosts Senses at a distance and vice versa as long as they kept well connected. This had a lot of possibilities actually.

"No worries. I won't be straying too far, just rest up enough." Miranda smiled and put on the military baseball hat once more, making it cover her face well from above. It wasn't an unusual thing to wear in militaries so it wasn't going to be arousing suspicion and with it obscuring most of her face for cameras, chances of her getting recognized as non staff were low.

She left the room calmly without attracting any attention because people were already having a lot on their plates anyhow. Some were running down the halls to their posts, others were just trying to be out of the wya and not be a hindrance. Nobody minded her as she walked across the barracks. It was kind of weird to be in this situation yet again. As a medic trainee back in the academy, she had actually spend about 2 months in active service. All graduating medics were made to pull in a bit of field duty, both to solidify their skills and prepare them for the dangers and realities of conflict. She had been returning to those days quite a bit lately, be it with the Irregulars or with Mira's people. Miranda had to admit she kind of liked it over being a spy. As she walked a guy seemingly randomly greeted her so she returned the greeting. It wasn't unusual, happened a few times, low level soldiers seemed to have a comraderie going on. It took a bit but she walked across teh barracks good, remembering key positions, cameras and other points of interest. She stopped by what appeared to be a vending machine of some kind. Curious, by the looks of it, the thing was made to run with credit chips and some other kind of tokens. There were some random luxury items in it. It was a daylight robbery prices, but she got herself a pack of smokes. It was for better settling in.

With smokes secured seh went to one of the smoking areas. It was mostly empty because many people were busy right now, but there was a guy there a soldier. Had a UED uniform on, but rankwise by his markings it wasn't much. He spotted her, didn't say much, just gazed at her for a few moments before giving a token nod of acceptance of her existance.' Arrogant prick...' Miranda thought and pulled her own smokes, pulling one and bringing it to her lips, before reaching to her pocket for her 'lighter'. She did have a lighter stashed away in her survival gear, but this was beside the point. SHe made it appear as if she couldn't find her lighter, looking a bit distressed as another soldier with UED uniform arrived into the smoking aera. He notted both her and his colleague. After spotting her distressed look, the unlit cigarette locked between her lips, he realized what was happening. Pulled his lighter and offered her a fire." Here. Man you could have offered the lady a light at least."

His friend grunted something in response, giving her the cold shower look of abhorence. Like he was looking at some kind of grotesque bug.' Buddy, if I didn't have to keep a low profile, you'd be gathering your teeth from the floor. I'm having more IQ in my toenails than 50 of yourself combined."' Miranda's mind was cursing him." Thank you. Must have lost mine when I was on guard duty." She gave some words of thanks to the one who helped her out. He nodded and walked to his colleauge, leaving her alone some distance from them. She was smoking quietly, pretending to just be destressing after a long day. These guys weren't the officials she needed, she wanted something more... less brawns and more brains. That however didn't mean there weren't things to learn from them, thus she listened, making sure her link with Ava was well opened so Ava hears it took.

"Man, chill already. It's not so bad here." The friendlier soldier stated, trying to seemingly lift the spirits of his friend.

"Pff... apes and savages... So... primitive and low." The grumpy soldier growled and tossed her another look of abhorence. She pretended that she wasn't even listening to them." Should have stayed with the fleet... instead of looking after a group of peasant farmers playing soldiers. How these people even use this old tech is beyond me."

"Sigh, come on, it's not like they can do anything about it. Besides they've agreed to work with us. It's out job to follow our own orders and make sure they are prepared for integration later. And as I said ,it's not so bad. If you at least talk to them, you'd find that many of them are reasonable enough, except those guys who went through what htey call here neural resocialization... "

"Doesn't matter. Soon enough these rogue colonies will be no longer be allowed to do as they please. Hmph.... just some outlaws and criminals who have forgotten where they belong." The grumpy soldier clearly was incredibly biased and abhored anyone in the sector, viewing himself as superior in all shapes, forms and manners, though hilariously he was probably one of the simplest and basic people Miranda had ever seen. Just a regular grunt putting on airs because of his origin." Anyhows, what's this with the ship arriving? Which ship arrived?"

"The Volga. Apparently their battlegroup encountered a swarm of those zerg in space. One of the guys they shipped via shuttles from it was a friend of mine. He was missing his leg. We didn't get the chance to talk much whil they rushed him to medical here. Said the battle was crazy, those zerg things were suicide bombing the ship. Said that some had even managed to board the Volga so they had to fight in the halls and bely of the ship. Crazy things, we should pray those don't show up here. This base's not prepared for such combat."

Miranda really wanted to stand by and listen more, but she had just about ended her cigarette, so she extinguished it in the ash tray and tossed the but into the bin before heading away, hearing some last few words, but nothing of importance really. They were just low level soldiers. All they could get via the mental link with Ava and reading hteir surface thoughts was the name: Alexei Stukov.

Post Re: SC - Fugitives
Ava frowned behind her mask. Twenty-eight years to travel? It could sometimes take weeks to travel between locations in the sector... at least from her limited experience since meeting Miranda anyways. She suddenly realized she still knew relatively little about the geography of the sector in which she lived. She knew some planet names, ones that she had visited or lived on.. and the names of some certain important ones but... she really didn't even know how big the Koprulu sector was to begin with. Even so, she doubt it was anything comparable to twenty-eight years. How far away was Earth then? She looked towards the door, looking at the blank features only a few feet away but her mind was going far beyond as she felt the minds in the general vicinity. It was becoming rather more obvious by the feel if it was the newcomers, these UED people.. or the Confederate hold-outs. Many of the hold-outs had a lot of resentment towards the others. And many of the minds she could feel of the UED people that were close were.. well they weren't old enough to have been sent thirty years ago.

She shook her head as she caught a memory from one. "They definitely haven't been travelling that long..." she answered. "One is remembering seeing his family before he left... a just a few months ago? A handful... maybe?" she added, not getting the clearest idea of the amount of time but enough to know that it wasn't anywhere near the span of years. Something else she picked up was that these people had families too, felt the same emotions as anyone. As she felt now for Miranda and Nick. She supposed.. they were her family now. But that brought her to another thing: the people she had killed, the ones that she would be killing.. would sometimes be innocent soldiers only following orders, soldiers that had families that would mourn their deaths. The tug of guilt at that thought made her wonder yet again if she had made a mistake in removing her inhibitor.

She breathed out heavily, pushing aside those thoughts. Mind on the mission.... Casualties would happen but in the end, it was for the greater good, wasn't it. She forced her attention back to the history lesson and it was a good thing she did. Ava's back straightened just a bit as she jerked in surprise. There had obviously been a lot that the trainers at the Academy had deemed unnecessary knowledge for ghosts, including history such as this. A dark age of lost technology? As Miranda put it, Earth had almost surely advanced further while the Korpulu sector struggled to relearn. That meant these UED people were far more dangerous than she had suspected. Who knew if they had better ways to detect cloaked units such as herself. Hearing what Miranda had to say about these UED and the fact that people from the Koprulu sector might throw their lot in with a new devil over the one they already knew worried Ava even more so. They would have to extract as much intel as possible about the UED and what they were doing here as they could once they found a captive.

She also didn't like the fact that said ship approaching had been damaged. If it WAS in combat, that could add yet another variable to this already tenuous operation. She made a sound while breathing out when Miranda said it was good for them. 'Good... as long as whatever did that damage doesn't decide to show up here...' she replied with just a hint of anxiety along with frustration in her mental tone. She nodded at Miranda, half oblivious to the other woman's pride in the ghost's advancements. Taking pride in herself was just something that Ava had never really learned. "Be careful out there." she added as Miranda got ready to head out as per Ava's suggested course of action.

After the other woman had left, Ava knelt, closing her eyes as she concentrated on staying mentally with Miranda. It was... interesting, riding along this way. She couldn't see what Miranda saw or anything remotely like that but.. she was fully hearing the 'stream of mind', getting quick visual impressions of Miranda's surroundings. All the little thoughts or half-thoughts about what the doctor was seeing plus that painted a pretty good picture for the ghost. She suddenly felt Miranda's desire for cigarettes from a vending machine. Ava, even far away, recoiled at that. She had smelled those things before, finding it horrible and nasty. She still couldn't understand anyone's desire for such a foul-smelling and unhealthy habit.

Still, though.. it proved to be useful in some manner as Miranda entered a common area for smokers and ended up attracting the attention of a potential target. Ava moved to feeling the minds of the two others in the smoking room now that she could single out the location easily. The sour one wasn't likely to be easily broken from what she could feel. His sheer disdain for the people from this sector was enough that he likely would die before revealing much to what he considered bugs. Oh, him Ava would have no reservations about putting a bullet between the eyes if it came to it. The other man's mind though, the one that had offered a light to Miranda, was different, softer, more compassionate. And maybe even a bit attracted to Miranda. That could be useful at least to get him to follow the doctor.

Ava smiled lightly at hearing Miranda's thoughts about the prejudiced man. While it wasn't pleasant on Miranda's end, getting glowered at and maybe feeling parts of the man's emotions, it was far less pleasant for Ava being inside that man's mind. 'I know the feel of his mind now. If you want, after we get what we need.. we can pay that one a little visit too.. show him what happens to those who are... unkind.' she offered Miranda before focusing once more on the other man and Miranda. It was kind of odd picking up a conversation from three separate minds as she began to now, Miranda's acting as almost a.. translator? No, that wasn't right. More like captions to the thoughts of the two men. She could get the words spoken from Miranda with the thoughts and feelings and ideas from the men as they spoke. It was almost like overlaying three different images that fit but at the same time were.. complicated.

She frowned beneath her mask at the vitriol still spewing from the one soldier. Oh, she had to fight the urge to send a bolt of psionic energy his way. So tempting... But it would be dangerous to do anything just yet. He thought them apes and savages. His mind was an open book to the ghost though and... well, she definitely found it lacking. Oh yes, if they had opportunity later, Ava definitely wanted to show him how mistaken he was. She frowned again now as a thought passed through the minds of one of the men, a name. Alexei Stukov. The mind was.. respectful, deferential to the name, the thought of the man that bore it. This Stukov was a man of high authority it seemed. She couldn't get anything more than that but... it was something, however small. But they needed more. 'We need someone who can give us more operation details.' she sent to Miranda as the doctor began to finish her cigarette and start to leave. 'It seems they want to come back in and.. take control of this sector but.. we need to know more to be able to form a plan, to understand what their tactics will be....'

She paused, feeling the area around Miranda. 'Go back to the vending machine.' she sent suddenly to Miranda. The mind Ava had felt there felt.. entitled. Quite so actually. Oh, that one wasn't UED but he was in the know. A former noble of the Confederacy, one who dealt fairly often with UED officers here. Even better, he was thinking about going down to the research areas to check up on projects too in a bit. Knowledge of the UED presence and of the research... Two birds with one stone? She wouldn't doubt that the UED kept much from such a man but still, they could learn more than lowly soldiers had given them.

( This man is mid-high tier hierarchy among the Confed forces here.... He is of fairly high rank just because of his family, not because he really earned it but he feels entitled to it. He isn't like really high nobility exactly but he is like.. the son of a cousin of someone or something in one of the Old Families XD. He just likes to think of himself as very important in the ranks here. Definitely one with delusions of grandeur, but he does have fairly good access in the base and knowledge of what is going on. )

Post Re: SC - Fugitives
Miranda's recon mission was goign quite darn well. She had to admit, she was approving of this MO. Being connected like this was proving quite the advantage, she could go where the ghost would have hard time unless he was going very undercover with an inhibitor on, while the ghost could use her to pick on the minds of the others about. They'd have to see if they could expand on this later.

As she left the smoking area, she took a breath of relief, she was probably just a minute away from putting a bullet in that man's head. Seems what she was told about Earth was mostly true, given how he acted. To most of the Earthlings, the Korpulu sector was indeed a penal colony where they send the people they hated the most. Now these people here had their own civilization, of course Earthlings would abhore them, it was probably given in their education to be very self confident and xenophobic by the sound of it. Fuck those guys, Miranda wasn't up for leaving them take the sector. She'd need to get the word out, unless others already knew. Highly likely that Umoja would know it soon enough if not already aware. Mengsk would similarly be WELL aware if not already. After all he was these guys' main hurdle.

'No need, after we get more info on what we need, we should leave as soon as possible. Hurting anyone from the UED would arouse suspicion... We cannot afford that. Once we find as much info as we need, we should look for the escape chance. Ideally where we came from, however it would require to time our escape with just the change of shifts in the patrols outside like the wya we came in.' MIranda added with a smile, fixing the position of her baseball cap.

She was passing by the vending machines, not too far frmo them when she heard Ava's pointing out something. Soon enough she got the rest of the message adn realized what they had stumbled into. A real life noble! What a 'coincidence'! Well not many of them left... Mengsk had executed most he found, even those who weren't his competition such as ones without any political or military power. She didn't recognize this specific man, she didn't have all noble houses members memorized after all, just the main faces and most of those were now down under.' Alright, Ava, I will need your help on this to make it seemless and fast.' Miranda sent a message.' I need you to just to lightly amplify any sensations of attraction he might feel... That would make him way more agreeable to... following me.' She smiled, normally she could seduce him given the right time or situation. However they neither had the time, nor a decent situation with enough freedom of action for her to take her time seducing the man.

She took off her hat, let her long hair loose and ruffled it just a bit to give it a tiny bit of volume. Then she walked innocently over to the vending machines again where the man was. She walked past him in a seductive gait, and put in the tokens into the machine, getting herself a bottle of some kind of soda. She leaned over and picked it up, before slowly standing back up, and 'coincidentally' meeting the man's eyes as she was taking a sip from the soda. She 'blushed' a little and looked to the side." I'm sorry, sir. I didn't realize you were here." She replied to the man with a bit of emotional voice, starting to apply to his ego. Person like this loved to be treated with respect even though they didn't deserve it. He seemed to have a simpler mind, should be easy enough to influence into following her between obvious seduction and mental suggestions.

Ideally they got get him to either bring Miranda about the base with him which wasn't likely because even he'd need to present IDs for the people he brings around, but even if they just got him to follow her to the room they were using, they'd be able to interrogate him and snatch his ID card, getting access to a lot of the base. Admittedly, him bringing them around would be better, because it wouldn't cause him to vanish during... interrogations. It all depended if he could bring her or both of them inside the labs without having to have Miranda go through the ID checks.

Post Re: SC - Fugitives
Ava was taken aback at the realization, mostly thanks to Miranda, that the man the ghost had centred on was in fact a noble, a part of one of the old families that had formerly actually RUN the Confederacy. She had taken him as just a self-centred brat of an officer before Miranda had picked up on who the guy, or what the guy actually was. Ava felt an immediate dislike, not only for what she felt but because this was one of the many who allowed what had happened to her... happen. The former nobility were likely just as bad as Mengsk. She took a deep breath as Miranda began to talk to her mentally, pushing aside any anger, any emotion. Feeling too much while reaching into a mind might just lead to confused feelings from her target's side.

She hesitated when Miranda told her to amplify attraction. The idea of steering him like that towards Miranda just felt... odd. She suppressed a shudder, knowing that this would be their best chance to get more info on the UED as well as the research projects here. She sent her friend back an assent as she focused on the noble's mind, being careful to slip in lightly, not to exert too much force that could at the very least dissuade the man from romantic intentions, or worse, injure him. She let herself slip into his stream of consciousness, listening for now. Hm. he had intentions of seducing one of the scientists, a young woman that would swoon to his adoration, or so he was convincing himself. He fancied himself a ladies man, that much was obvious. Ava judged it was more likely often his rank and importance on this base that netted him any results though than his charisma. He was currently looking for some sort of.. gift, or bribe in this luxury item vending machine, looking at the most expensive items and trying to decide what would aid him the most.

He almost didn't notice a figure come up beside him, but caught Miranda out of the corner of his eye. He paused to give her a second glance. Attractive... but a few years older than him, at least. He was about to disregard this lowly soldier when a stray thought slipped into his mind, one that he wasn't quite sure where it had come from. He had never pursued older women, even if it was only a few years older before, but something now spoke to him, telling him maybe it was time to try. Older women had experience, after all, right? Besides, she wasn't really old, she was basically in the same age range as he... And that might mean that she might just be more willing than some young, inexperienced scientist. How could he pass this one up? The more he thought about it, the more he began to realize that the voice in his mind was right. He turned to the soldier, giving his most dashing smile as the woman began to apologize.

The noble shook his head, waving it away. "No, no.. it is all right, ma'am." he replied with the drawl that was specific to the old families. "I was lost in my own decisions here and did not notice that I might be blocking the way of such a... attractive young woman. It is my fault entirely." he spoke eloquently, a silver tongue learned from a young age to placate the masses. That this woman blushed only inflamed his desire to pursue. Perhaps she wasn't so unlike his earlier chosen quarry in some ways. She seemed more submissive... more his type after all. Yes.. this was a good idea, he decided. He gave a grand bow. "Scion Emil Rolland Emery D'Arbanville III." he introduced himself. His uncle had been the Father, the leader of the D'Arbanville family but as of yet, since the fall of Tarsonis, Emil had had no word of his uncle's fate, nor that of any other of his family members. He probably should soon adopt the title. It wasn't like there was anyone here who could contest it.

He gave a bow of his head again. "Please, m'lady, let me make it up to you." He paused, looking at her again, studying for a moment. "You are new here are you not? Have you yet been given a tour of the base? Of course you have been given the limited tour, yes? But I can do better." He didn't really know why he was suggesting a more extensive tour but.. it seemed right. He smiled his most charming smile. "I can show you anything and everything you might like to see...."

Meanwhile, though still keeping tabs on both Miranda's and the noble's minds, Ava was stashing her canister rifle in the room she was currently occupying, hiding it well enough in a closet area that a cursory search around the room for the missing man should it come up wouldn't uncover the weapon. Next, she added the bulky armour pieces from her gear as well as her mask to the hiding spot before searching though the dead soldier's spare outfits. She picked out one uniform that looked like an off-duty type and slipped in on over top of her skin suit. It consisted of cargo pants, a t-shirt and a jacket, that while being a bit too big for her, the bulkiness his any hints of his skin suit beneath. She had re-positioned her pistol that she normally strapped to a thigh and now simply stuck it behind her back, beneath the jacket. Quickly, she undid the ponytail she wore while working as well.

Glancing at herself in a mirror in the quarters, she was satisfied with what she saw: the 'ghost' part of herself was now hidden well enough. She turned her focus to Miranda. 'I'll be heading your way shortly, just... passing by.' she sent psionically to the doctor. 'Tell him you have a friend that would like to join you for the 'tour'.' she explained, and then sighed, somewhat mortified by the part she was going to have to play. 'Suggest that.. I would be interested in more than just the tour as well... If you go towards the labs, I don't know how far I'd be able to help influence his mind if I remained here so... I really had best come along....' she said, wincing.

Oh god, she felt dirty even having suggested it. If anything though, she could play the shy friend. Well, that would be the only thing she really could play at, to be honest. With that, she headed out, moving in the direction that Miranda had gone, to where the vending machine's were, moving past them, and Miranda and the noble, at an oblique angle, appearing to be on her way somewhere else, waiting for Miranda's summons.

As the man apparently put on his 'game' smile on, Miranda honestly had to force herself to not burst into an absurd laughter and sucker punch the man into oblivion. Luckily due her extensive experience in hiding her thoughts and feelings from reaching her face, she maintained that a bit bashful, a bit smiling look on as he started introducing himself. Inwardly she was cringing so hard and restraining the desire to kill him right here and now. This was the type of person she hated the most after Mengsk who had by his own efforts and actions crafted the brand new level of hatred she never knew before and earned her first position." Of course Sir, It's been my long yearned for pleasure to meet you." She replied doing a respective light bow to him. Acting like she had known him for a long time and probably held much admirations and possibly more towards him." My name's Emma Jones." She introduced herself, using a random name she had picked up earlier at some point while she and Ava were busy spying in on all the thoughts floating about. If she recalled right, this was the name of one of the patrol soldiers, so it should be good. She had no intention of giving her real name and or Alias. Hilariously if she used her original credentials, they'd probably welcome her right in, but she wasn't doing it even if that was her only choice of action, rather die then join the types of this man.

In addition to everything else that was so repulsing about the man, the thoughts she felt through the connection with Ava's abilities, made everything even worse, she could only imagine that Ava's experience was probably even worse than her own. However Miranda steeled her mind, relaxed her expression into an even more seemignly natural state of much adoration towards the man. Gosh darn, she ahdn't lied and acted so untrue to herself since the time they left the academy. For a moment she felt she was back in those days...

"Ohh, sir. I ..." She pretended to be extremely surprised. Acting flustered for ab it she nodded and smiled." Yes, I arrived here not too long ago with one of hte last regrouping forces." Miranda lied, but gave a plausable lie that would require system check to disapprove. What's more she was willing to bet neither the Confederete or the UED were expecting infiltrators on THIS world. Heck, with no records of this place, she only knew it because Mark had told her and he made it pretty clear his info was from many decades back, possibly when she wasn't even born yet." I have never went to the lower levels, I was told those are off limits unless you are assigned shifts there. Some of the other soldiers told me it was the best part of the complex. That all the soldiers wanted to be on duty there." She said carefully. That's where the labs were. She didn't directly say she wanted to visit the labs, instead made it sound like she was just curious what was down in the lower levels and didn't know much past the general 2 word description they'd been given at arrival.

Miranda nearly cursed aloud when she heard Ava's plan of action, but at the same time she did agree with the ghost's estimate of the situation. If Ava felt dirty about this, Miranda was even more so, because she couldn't do this alone and Ava had to join in with this. She felt sorry, angry and promised that before they leave this place, she's going to give this man a very nice... present... to remember them by... for his brief life that is. Her smile was innocent, but her thoughts certainly were not. Miranda could go very dark when she was triggered.

"Ahh, Sir Emil, I've got a friend. We've been roommates for a long time and arrived together. We had agreed to meet up here." Miranda moved the situation towards Ava's arrival tactically." She's kind of new as a soldier, she used to be part of the logistics, but got drafted into the marines a little before we arrived here, so I feel uncomfortable leaving her alone. I know it's a lot to ask, but can she join us? We'd be very grateful and... I'm sure we CAN repay such a kind gesture..." Miranda spoke out, voice filled with emotion an a bit of suggesting intonation, though her face also displayed a bit of embarassement and maybe shyness.

Miranda spotted Ava arriving and it was time to act." Hey Ada, I'm here." Miranda called out, voice still carrying the traces of being flustered a bit." You really need to start paying attention to your surroundings. I moved barely 10 feet from the meeting spot and you walked past me." The doctor said. She then hurried over to Miranda." Look Ada, this is Scion Emil Rolland Emery D'Arbanville III!" She right away started to put in the adoration sales pitch. She then leaned in a bit as if to whisper, but made it just loud enough to be lightly heard by him." Didn't you say he was the best looking in the Arbanville line? You were right." It was clearly meant to be ab it of 'girls talk'.

'Hold it... we just need to keep this charade till we get the data... I'm so tearing his throat later...' Miranda send a mental thought to Ava, but she was trying to calm her own bloodlust just as much as Ava's emotions. They just needed his access for the tour of the lab. Once that was done, as soon as htey got to a secluded enough space, he was fucking dead meat.

Post Re: SC - Fugitives
As Ava entered the same stretch of hallway that Miranda and their target were occupying, she could sense Miranda asking if her friend could join them and Ava could feel a hesitation in the noble. Hesitation in thinking that perhaps this woman he was talking to had misread the subtleties he was trying to put forth. That hesitation only lasted a second though as the doctor kept talking and emphasized repayment and curiosity filled its place. Ava shuddered at the sudden imaginings in the man's mind and she lost a step in her gait as she walked. She was only glad that Nick's mind... wasn't like this man's. Sure Nick had had.. musings back when they had first met but... well... that had literally been an attraction based musing. This was... a musing of dominating multiple women.... It was sickening for the ghost to feel.

But she had a part to play to get them into the restricted area. She pulled herself together as she came into view of the others and Miranda called her over. She put on a smile as she turned and "spotted" Miranda, giving a friendly wave but then turning that to a curious look at her friend's new companion. She wanted to throw a wide-eyed look at the doctor but she didn't as she replied to Miranda's thought. 'If you had felt everything that was in his head, you'd have gotten distracted too.. and not in a good way...' she objected, sending the feelings of distaste at what she had picked up from the noble.

Her face betrayed none of this though as she smiled and gave a shy nod at the man while Miranda began introductions. This man liked demure and subservient. That right there spoke loads about who he was as a man... not even man enough to accept a strong woman with her own mind. Disdain was the only thing she could feel for him. But again, she didn't show it. She bowed her head at the man's title. "Lord, or.. Sir D'Arbanbvile. It's a pleasure...." she began, keeping to the shy personality. Ava's head turned to the side just a bit as Miranda leaned in to "whisper" to her. Her expression immediately became one of mortified embarrassment. A "yes I did say that but not repeat what I said RIGHT in front of him!" look. She glanced back at the noble, embarrassed and wide-eyed. 'He is completely buying into this..' she sent psionically though.

By his smug look though it was more than obvious that he was. He chuckled though. "No titles, no ranks not among the three of us. Not tonight. Please, just Emil." he said to both women. Oh, he did like his ego stroked with the titles but.. with what he had planned, he wanted these women to be at ease. He reached out to take Ava and Miranda each on one arm. "If you wish to see the lower levels, you have but to ask, ladies. And if you like what you see, I can.. perhaps help you both with favours... If the soldiers prefer shifts down there, I can see to it that you get some too. I take care of those that.. deserve it." he added, implying that his favours would cost favours but that he would be generous with what he could offer, as long as they stayed interesting to him. He looked between each on each of his arms. One was a bit older but still very attractive, and the other.. a few years younger, more his usual age range but.. also very attractive. Oh yes, this would do.

Ava put on a look of surprise, glancing between Miranda and Emil, ignoring what she was sensing. "The lower levels? Really?" she repeated, technically just having come into the conversation after the location of the tour had been planned. "I had been told that it might be years before a new soldier would get access to down there, let alone be able to get shifts there..." she added with some wonder. She made a half laugh sound. "I've only so far been put on patrols out in the jungle and.. I can say that it's not very comfortable or pleasant out there.." she explained. "Some of the vets said that, being green, I'd be out there in the mud and acid rain for a long time to come.." she added with a bit of a hinting smile.

She was fighting with her own emotions now, keeping them off her face but only barely. 'You didn't get the full brunt of what was in his mind....' she sent back at Miranda. 'You aren't the only one who wants to gut this... pig...' Miranda's own ire towards Emil was simply coming back and amplifying Ava's own similar emotions, a feedback loop of anger and disdain. It was giving the ghost a headache and she dearly wished she had her psi-screen right now, but she had left it behind this time. She took a deep shuddering breath, which Emil mistook for.. shy anticipation.

Emil turned to Ava now as they walked towards the elevator, a bit of a curious look on his face. "Ada, is it? Your uniform.. looks a bit..." he began.

Ava cut him off with a sigh. "Yeah... Supplies were out of uniforms in my size.. So they had to give me some that were a bit on the bigger side. And you know how few of us are left now, us loyalists... Production of stuff like that is a bit harder to come by now..." she explained. She almost visibly recoiled at the thought that came from Emil but stopped herself.

"Understandable. At the end of the day though.. clothing and uniforms is not what is important, is it. It's something we don and doff with need... I'm sure that some better fitting garb will come through soon enough though." he answered as they made it to the elevator. He pressed the button and the doors immediately opened, showing an empty elevator car. He pulled the two women inside, and as the doors closed, hit some buttons and then put his hand against a plate as it scanned for his identity. Soon enough, the elevator was descending to levels that most regular soldiers here were not allowed.

When the elevator stopped, the doors opened to a stark white hallway. Nearby was a group of guards, Confederates by the uniform, who had been relaxing but, having heard the approaching elevator, had stopped up and were at least cautious about who was coming. When they say Emil, they stood to attention, saluting. One of them, probably the higher ranked one, spoke up. "Sir." he said, and then glanced at the two women. "Sir... I thought that you weren't supposed to bring.. guests down here anymore..." he began. "Colonel Sokol of the UED said..."

Emil turned an annoyed face at the man. "Colonel Sokol... Colonel Sokol... I don't care what Colonel Sokol says. This is a Confederate installation. And I am a Colonel too in the Confederate army. Even if he was a general, he is not Confederacy, so he cannot order me about." growled. "I am from one of the Old Families, who created the Confederacy! If I want to bring... guests... here, then I have every right to! Do you object to that, soldier?!"

The soldier, wide-eyed, tightened up at attention, no longer looking directly at Emil. "Sir, no, sir! I do not object. Enjoy your visit... sir!" he said, praying silently that Emil and his two women would be on their way past them quickly and the guards could go back to what they were doing.

Pleased at the soldier's 'respect' for his authority, Emil turned and pulled the two women with him as he headed further into the facility. "I am sorry, ladies, that you had to witness that." he said. "Though the UED has come to help us reclaim what the traitors had stolen... sometimes they think a bit too highly of themselves when it comes to giving orders. They must eventually learn that they are GUESTS here..." He stopped before the first project room, glancing in. There were cells within, housing perhaps a dozen men and women, one in each cell. He gestured. "Poor souls... these are some.. psionically adept people who... were on Tarsonis when it fell. They were damaged, mentally by the events that took place there... We evacuated them in hopes of rehabilitating them." he explained, his empathy only a facade. "Don't worry though, we have them contained for the moment. They are no danger, to themselves or anyone else."

Ava could feel vague impressions of the minds from within. There were psi-screens at work but these ones did not completely block out everything. 'They're ghosts... or at least.. they were...' Ava sent in horror to Miranda as she got disjointed flashes of.. thoughts, memories even. There was something off with the minds that she felt, something.. not normal. Whatever she was feeling, she didn't think it was damage, at least.. not typical psionic damage. Something felt.. wrong, different.. maybe even not human about the minds. It wasn't that they felt alien or anything, not like the Protoss or even the Zerg that they had come across... but... artificial? And amplified. Strong enough that their minds were leaking through psi-screens. Minds that could no longer be controlled in any meaningful way.

If they were doing something with ghosts, it made sense here, with either some sort of powerful psi-dampener at work, or the planet itself acting in that fashion. It not only kept psionics from getting out but also from psionics from getting in.. in theory at least. Ava forced herself to shake her head. "Poor people..." She didn't have to act out that sympathy. 'I think.. if we get rid of Emil, maybe we should.. end these people, these ghosts too... They are living in hell right now...' she sent to Miranda.

( Up to you then if you want Emil to show us other experiments, etc... or get on to dealing with him... It coming up to night time, scientists in the labs will probably be gone for the night, though there might be some that are just getting ready to leave as well. And if we have to deal with the guards, Ava still has her skin suit on so she can cloak if need be, and still has her knife on her to take them out silently. )

Post Re: SC - Fugitives
Miranda's expression was one of surprise, confusion and 'pity' as she played the role of a loyal confederate soldier, but her mind was filled with other thoughts instead. She had sensed the psionic minds about the same time as Ava, it wasn't that hard now that they were this close.' Yeah, I sensed.' She admitted to the ghost, as she listened to the man's explanation with the edge of her attention, but her eyes were staring at the ways these people were locked and disabled to not cuase problems on top of the psi-screens at work.

'I have no idea what actually happened with them however... I mean I've heard of experiments in attempts to boost psionics, drugs, tech and other, but never seen something quite like this. Especially not on Tarsonis. Even if they were from the planet, this wasn't happening there. Not in any of the academy affiliated labs on Tarsonis. It could very well be a local project... or from somewhere else, I will need to get access to the project's logs and data to figure out the specifics.' She explained as she nodded at the man's words, but didn't think much of what he was speaking.' And I agree with you... we should put them out of their misery, whatever this was, chances are it's not easy or even possible to reverse. We could just increase the dosage on their automated infusion medications... it would be painless that way. They all won't sense a thing.'

The tour of the labs continued onwards without much difficulty. Apparently the man was well known enough as the moment any of hte lab personel saw him, they just stopped paying attention and continued their duties, most of which was preparing to leave and soon what medical and science personel was about was indeed leaving. As such aside hte occasional guard and maybe a janitor or the sciencist on night shift, the labs were practically empty. Even with the people still around, chances of meeting any of them was minimal as Emil was giving them the tour guide speech. If nothing else Miranda realized well why the labs were indeed the place to be as a guard. There was nothing happening here. It was probably the cushiest job in the base, also had the higest concentration of elegant, lithe women among the scientists and the nurses.

Along the way Emil, showed them a few other projects that were being developped right now. One was a kind of device that was apparently supposed to completely hide one's psionic presence. Not in the way psi-screens did, this one was supposed to completely mask your presence form others while allowing you to keep your abilities. Miranda's extensive experience in this quickly made her realize that this was a pipe dream. At most they would get a psi-screen without the side effects if they were trying to make somethign with teh planet's natural phenomena. There were a few other things as well, mostly understaffed however. From what Miranda saw before the people left for the day and from the state of the labs, she could pretty positively confirm the following.' They've focused their whole attention on those people... Some of the other labs still have people working on them, but they are understaffed and possibly lacking resources on top.' This was her professional conclusion. She had seen a few curious things however. She'd really like to grab what data she could on the planet's effects, that they've documented. She was curious what was causing the dampening field on psionics across teh globe. There was also a project for new metals and the like. All in all, the base was in pretty poor shape, the labs were completely understaffed except the first one.

As such the tour continued all in all for about 2 hours. It was a pretty big research complex, must have been quite the sight in it's prime, now thought, aside the few initial labs, it showed it's age. Between the very old equipment and the unused labs, it showed that the place had seen downgrades before it was used as a hiding place by the nobility. In the end they reached a room that Emil opened with his access card and led them inside, turning the lights on. It was... well... a relaxing lounge. Possibly. There was actual furniture here, sofas, armchars, tables, a liquor cabinet, a coffee machine, a big tv screen and most important of all, she could see the security camera was broken. It was pretty obvious what the man's plans for this place was. It certainly had the feel of a decently high class place. It weirdly reminded her of some vip lounges in night clubs back on Tarsonis. Places she knew full well noble brats liked to have fun at.' This's the place... he will try to have his promised fun here. The room is sound proof, the security is blind...' She send to Ava and smiled innocently, throwing her very attractive smile towards the man. Though behind htat smile was another thought.

'If we want to deal with him, this is the place, the only question how far will we be able to before the head of security realizes that people from here aren't reporting once we start our task here.' Miranda grinned and walked over to the liquior rack, pulling a few glasses." A drink, sir Emil? You wouldn't mind would you?" She asked suggestively as she opened hte bottle of the whiskey and started pouring it.' Get him distracted with takling with you for a bit. I need to soften him for the interrogation with a bit of... helpers...' She send Ava and once the man was sufficiently distracted, she pulled the drug case from beneath her coat and pulled a pill from one of hte pill cases, dropping it into his whiskey. With a bit of a swirl the tiny pill disolved into the alcohol. It was just the pill equivalent of happy gas. He'd be really uppity and easy to convince after he gets it." I got the drinks!" Miranda said with a smile as she hopped over to the man and handed him a glass of whiskey.

Post Re: SC - Fugitives
Ava was struggling not to wince at the mental bombardment she was feeling, despite the psi-screens at work nearby. She was struggling also not to be sick, only a small part of that being at the concept of what had happened to these fellow-psionics. The majority of the feeling was what she was picking up from these former ghosts was.. nearly unintelligible with random disjointed snippets. She had to force herself to not concentrate on it because.. because there was nothing she could really piece together anyways from it all. It was only serve to overwhelm her. She couldn't prevent a shudder running through her body though, couldn't hold back quite all of the discomfort from her face. And it seemed Emil picked that up, though getting the wrong conclusion, he put an arm around Ava in a more familiar gesture than she was used to. She froze, stock-still, body tensing at the uninvited intrusion into her personal space, wanting more than anything to lash out but.. the mission objectives prevented her from acting. Despite how much she had already grown beyond what she had been, she was still loyal to her duty first still, at least on mission, with enough self-discipline.

"It's all right, Ada." he cooed gently. "I know most people fear the idea of psionics around, and while I will say it's not necessarily an unwarranted fear, these ones here are not a danger. We have them fully contained. They cannot hurt you or anyone else here." he explained in a patient manner.

Ava turned a forced smile on him. Inside, she was seething, the psionic energy building up to the point that it might break loose and severely injure someone... or worse. She took a deep breath through her nose, her teeth gritted behind the smile. She forced herself to nod as she tried to back away from the edge, making herself glance back into the room as if trying to fight fear or worry. "That's.. that's good to hear... But can we move on?" she asked insistently. The insistence was real enough but it wasn't for the reason that the man thought it was. He just chuckled indulgently and began to move them further down the corridor to the next project.

As they moved, she responded to what Miranda had sent about the captive former ghosts. 'You'd know better than I what was.. or wasn't going on on Tarsonis.' she agreed. She sent back a sense of relief to Miranda at the promise to end the.. torture of those other psionics, not needing words to convey that much. The rest of the tour was inane, as far as Ava was concerned, or just not even remotely in her field of expertise, but she tried to appear interested. Once Emil had his arm around her shoulders, he had kept her close like that for all the rest of the tour. Finally, they entered one last room and, surprisingly, it was some sort of lounge rather than yet another research lab. Ava flinched at what Miranda sent to her, but only for a moment. Nothing would happen here except what they decided would be so... and that would be questioning this pig and then disposing of him. Ava immediately relaxed at that prospect as she resumed the ghost side of herself.

'Don't worry about the head of security...' she sent back. 'What I got from him was that Emil here does this.. fairly commonly, bringing women down here to this.. lounge. I think he is used to Emil staying here all night at times... though I think the women don't always stay all the night.' She had gotten enough of a thought from the guards that they might have to let 'these two floozies' out of this restricted level at some point during the night and they might have to keep a watch for the women wandering the halls unaccompanied, though they would never intrude into Emil's private lounge. 'I think they won't even look for this pig until the morning.' she added. She almost frowned at Miranda's order to her. Why keep the act up? A mild psionic bolt to the brain and he would be woozy enough that they could take him down and a knife to the throat was always a good motivator to get someone to speak.... But then she realized what Miranda was up to.

Ava smiled coyly at Emil, gesturing for him to accompany her to the overstuffed sofa nearby, sitting him down beside her as she leaned close to him. "I can't believe all of this is going on down here. We might actually still have a chance to beat back the insurgents, don't we?" she began in distraction.

Emil frowned. "A chance? Of course we will take back the sector. It may take a bit of time, but... we have help now. People that support the reinstatement of the Confederacy in leading this sector." he added with a bit of suspicion.

Ava drew back, acting submissive again. "No, no... of course we will win. I just mean... well, the soldiers... some have been talking... not so sure. Anyone that I've come across, I've argued that we will, of course... I just.. I am glad to see my own beliefs backed up with the facts of what you are doing here..." she explained, pausing and waiting to see what his reaction would be. Sure enough, it was enough of an ego stroke to the man that the suspicion disappeared. He was about to slide in closer to her again but Miranda appeared with the drinks. Emil was given one and then Miranda handed another glass to Ava. The ghost took it but put it aside on the nearby coffee table. She just didn't care for alcohol.

It wasn't long at all before the man was in an intoxicated stupor, suggestible to just about anything. At that point, Ava pushed away from him and stood up, pulling out her knife, holding the flat of it along her wrist for the moment so it wasn't immediately threatening to the drugged man. She looked over at Miranda with a cold look, any emotion gone from her face as the mission became priority again. "Time to get started on the questions?" she asked Miranda, glancing over at Emil whose face showed a hint of confusion at what was going on, a hint of worry but the drug prevented him from acting on it. She gestured towards him for Miranda. "Sooner we get started, sooner we can get out of here..." she added, inviting the doctor to take the lead. Miranda would know what to ask more than Ava would.

Post Re: SC - Fugitives
With the man distracted, feeding him the drugs was a piece of cake. The pill had dissolved into the liquid right away, barely leaving any trace of it's taste, but the man didn't even notice it. Few people would, honestly. She and Ava could easily see the changes in his mind and appearance as the drugs took effect. His mind quickly got hazy, unable to focus and his eyes got unfocused as well, he sat down on the sofa, unable to stand up, his limbs weak and unresponsive to his stray thoughts.

"Wha... eh...uhh... what... was this... drinks..." He managed to mumble with some struggle, but honestly it was about the extent of his efforts. The drung Miranda fed him was rather... unique. A mixture of truth serum and opiates. Target would be completely out of it, high to the tip of his head and that actually helped with the truth serum, made it easier to take effect. A veritable result of medication designed for people with incredible will powers and strong bodies capable of resisting regular truth serums. Even a ghost would be easily affected by it. This was actually something she had some handy work in when it was designed. She helped the team developpnig it with making it affect psionics in the way that it stops power spikes instead of what regular drugs did or in other words, making the ghost lose control of em. Well it was ANOTHER failed project, they never got the drug to work properly on ghost and other telepaths, so it was abandoned and shelved, but not before Miranda snatched the recipe.

"Don't worry... just answer to our questions and it will all end fast." She promised him with calm voice, but it was clear he was completely out of it by now.

"What's your name?" Miranda asked, as a baseline question to confirm the drug was working.

"Emil Rolland Emery D'Arbanville III..." He spoke, his words a bit mumbled, but otherwise understandable. His eyes were focused on the lamp." Pretty... galaxy..."

"Well it works." Miranda confirmed and looked at Ava.

"When did the Confederacy contact the UED?"

"... Shortly just after the fall of Tarsonis when Mengsk took control. They reached out to us, proposing to aid us in stopping the terrorist and the zerg." Emil was replying, mind hazed, unble to realize quite why he was speaking these things." They stated they had been keeping an eye on the sector until now."

"... Figured as much. We should have known they will return one day. As if killing and imprisoning our ancestors wasn't enough." Miranda's face was dark. She didn't like the UED, she knew full well the history of the time or at least what was avaible to the records of the Confederacy. With her clearance she had taken quite the zeal back then to make use of it." Who leads the UED in the sector, I heard the name Alexei Stukov?" Miranda asked, pulling a chari as she sat in front of the drugged noble.

"Alexei Stukov... yes... he's the Vice Admiral of hte UED." Emil replied, startling Miranda. Apparently they had gotten the info not quite as right as they had initially thought earlier! He was just hte Vice Admiral, not the main leader." The Admiral of the Expeditionary Fleet is Gerard DuGalle."

"Have you met this DuGalle? Who's the highest ranking UED in this instalation?" Miranda asked, as by now she was already making notes inside her datapad. Nothing had to be left to be forgotten.

"No, here we've only met with Stukov via video conference." Emil ever so zealously continued to reply to any question they might have." The highest ranking UED is Colonel Sokol... However Alexei Stukov will likely appear within the next few days. There have been news that a part of the UED expeditionary fleet will stop at this world to ressuply and shift over some of it's troops." This didn't sound well with Miranda, if what he said was the truth and they didn't hurry it up, they could very well be left trapped on this world when the armada arrives! She tossed a look at Ava." We will need ot pass by the room where you hid your stuff to grab it on the way out." She stated and looked around, before returning her gaze to the drugged man. She continued to ask him question after question, but overall he wasn't aware of hte UED's plans and by the sound of it aside their direct officers, probably no body was. They had stated at least part of their task in the sector however. It was to reclaim the 'rogue colonies' in the name of Earth. Apparently the confederacy was proposed a deal to give them power and status when the colonies are back under Earth's control. Miranda wasn't very happy about the fact. The Confederacy literally was setting themselves up to repeat history with them holding majority power here, just this time as the hand of the UED.

She also asked him on details about the purpose of hte experiments. This time the answer was a bit more disturbing. Apparently all the people in that lab with the psionics were weaker ghosts and other psionic sensitive people htey had located since their escape to this base. Anyone even remotely Psionic Sensitive was being forced to undergo the experiments. He wasn't aware what they were using exactly, he wasn't a scientist, but apparently the Confederacy was boosting their powers to a degree no matter the costs in attempts to build new Psi-Emitters! They were planning on sending those people under the guise of medical treatments to different terran worlds to cause effectively what happened on Tarsonis. Luckily however they were encountering problems because the original Emitter technology never was quite perfected and while they were working models, it wasn't to the point they were ready for mass production, so with Tarsonis gone, most of the data on the project was gone. So they were literally working from the ground up again with a bit of boost this time around because they had a a scientist who was an expert in teh project. They were planning to use living subjects for the emitters this time. Apparently the project had encountered a few hurdles along the way.

Miranda had more than enough heard what she needed to hear form him. She pulled his access card and personal data pad and copied all the data from it to her own, of course carefully. Then she looked at the ghost." I'm done with him, got anything you want to ask him before we deal with him? We should get going, the night is progressing and we shoudl hurry up. By the time morning shifts in the lab roll around, we should be ideally gone from the base."
